What’s it all about?

BTEC Specialist qualification is work-related qualifications available from Entry to Level 3. The qualification puts learning into the context of the world of work, giving students the opportunity to apply their research, skills and knowledge in relevant
and realistic work contexts. This applied, practical approach means learners build the knowledge, understanding and skills they need for career progression or further study.

Entry requirements for this course will be a minimum of grade 4 in four subjects with grade 5+ in both maths and English, dependant on interview

All units in this qualification are internally assessed and subject to external standards verification.

The Level 3 course is based around 75% theory and 25% practical assessment, which will give students a more in-depth understanding of the theory within mechanical, electrical, electronic and manufacturing engineering. It also allows for basic practical experience in manual engineering techniques, which assists with the implementation of theoretical knowledge developed in the classroom.

Entry requirements for this course will be a minimum of grade 4 in four subjects, with grade 5+ in both Maths and English, dependant on interview.

Students are required to complete work placements during the course. This is done in collaboration with local engineering and manufacturing organisations.

The college has a partnership with a number of local engineering and manufacturing organisations, which include AkzoNobel, Tharsus, Suez and Clifton engineering.

This is a full-time course, consisting of three days per week (09:00 – 16:15). The course is based at ourAshingrton campus. Days of attendance to be confirmed.

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering qualification haa been developed through close collaboration with the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Apprenticeship Employer Group, professional bodies and other awarding organisations.

This qualification is for learners who are working in, or who are intending to work in, the role of mechatronics maintenance technician.

The qualification gives learners the opportunity to:
- Study mandatory units, including Communication for Engineering Technicians, Mathematics for Engineering Technicians and Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace
- Develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required in apprenticeship frameworks and standards in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This includes areas such as calculus, engineering drawing, vehicle engine systems and business
operations in engineering
- Develop a range of positive attitudes and professional attributes that support successful performance in the manufacturing engineering work environment
- Achieve a nationally-recognised Level 3 qualification

What’s next?

Upon successful completion of the Level 3 Certificate in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering,you can progress onto a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering, to complete their Level 3 engineering experience.
