What’s it all about?

This course is ideal if you would like to work in health and social care in jobs such as Care Assistant, Support Worker or Personal Assistant and will support your Health and Social Care ambitions to pursue further study and responsibility within the workplace.

Making use of our new Health hub, you will develop essential skills for the sector and be able to apply your learning in a work-related context.

You will learn about working in the Health and Social care sector, cover a range of units and learning experiences, and spend time in a placement setting.

Ideally you will have two GCSEs at grade 4 or above or a relevant level 1 qualification. Good communication skills are important, and DBS clearance required.

There is an expectation our Health and Social care students will wear college kit when on placement / practicing skills. You may be entitled to support with this, please ask for further details.

Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods to build a portfolio of evidence including practical assessments, presentation, observations and written assignments. 

English and maths are important life skills that will help you to achieve your best in your studies and progress to your dream career. If you have not already achieved grade 9-4 in GCSE maths and/ or English at school, we will support you to improve your skills.

We work in close partnership with many of the North East's leading health and social care employers to ensure our students get the best opportunities to progress in their future career path. Some of our employer partners offer students who complete and achieve their programme of study a guaranteed interview with their organisation.

Employers include Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust.

The course runs over Monday to Friday, 9am - 4.15pm. Days and times of study are subject to change, timetables are confirmed at the start of term.

This course will provide you with the essential knowledge, understanding and skills in health and social care to support progression to further learning or into the workplace.

What’s next?

On successful completion of this course you could progress directly to our level 3 certificate in Health and Social Care or to employment within the health and social care sector.
