What’s it all about?

This course is set up over two days per week, with theory sessions and practical session.

The units you will cover will be inspection of light vehicles, diagnosis and rectification of chassis faults, electrical faults, transmission and driveline.

You will have a good knowledge of health and safety within the industry, as well as the technical skill to move into employment.

A Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance will be required for entry onto this course.

Teaching and assessment methods include theory-based sessions, which are classroom taught. These sessions are tested through online examinations.

Practical sessions are delivered in our industry standard garage workshop, based at East Ord Industrial Estate, Tweedmouth, Berwick upon Tweed. These sessions are tested through practical assessments.

Assessments both in the classroom and in the garage are spaced throughout the academic year.

If you have not already gained a GCSE grade 4 or above, or a SQA National 5 or above in Mathematics or English Language, you will be able to sit these with us.

These classes are taught over two days for the duration of the academic year.

You will be required to secure a industry placement with a garage setting for a minimum of 70 hours.

The aim of this qualification is to further your Level 2 technical knowledge and ability in areas such as inspecting light vehicles, principals of diagnosis and rectification of driveline and ignition faults, and diagnosis and rectification of automotive auxiliary electrical faults.

At the end of this qualification, you will be a fully qualified light motor vehicles technician, allowing you to drive towards a career in your dream job.
