Studying health and social care at Northumberland College helped Abigail progress to university and secure a job as a nurse.
The former St Benet Biscop Catholic Academy pupil chose the college after being impressed by the warm welcome she received while attending an open day at Ashington Campus.
Describing her two years as supporting, interesting and fun, Abigail enjoyed the variation the course offered which meant she learned something new every day.
“The campus at Ashington was great and the facilities were really good,” she said. “The course was really interesting and I learned so much from my tutors who really helped me with their support.
“The library had endless resources to complete your work and the friendly faces which met you when you went into college made it a better learning environment.
“We also had the privilege of being able to attend multiple training sessions such as manual handling, basic life support and first aid.”
Abigail is currently in her final year at Northumbria University and has just accepted her first post as a nurse in her local community.
“It’s been a challenging three years but I’ve done it,” she adds. “I want to thank the tutors at Northumberland College for everything they taught me.
“Everyone there is so friendly, the courses are always interesting and challenging, and I would 100% recommend it to those who are unsure of what to do next.
“I cannot speak highly enough of everyone in the health and social care department as without them I wouldn’t be where I am now.”
