Students reach new heights with climbing qualification

Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship can help you get real work experience, gain job skills and knowledge and study towards a relevant qualification.

Apprenticeships

Arboriculture apprentices have gained their City and Guilds NPTC Level 2 Climb and Rescue qualification.

Apprentices, Harry Olsson, Richard Carter, Michael Hall and Michael Allen were trained by Northumberland College’s Instructor (Arboriculture), Michael Armer and are employed by Northumberland County Council.

The apprentices undertook a range of assessments with an external assessor, organised by the Rural Skills team at Kirkley Hall to earn their qualification. This standard covers the accessing of trees through climbing aided by climbing equipment.

The aerial rescues element of the qualification includes recovery of both conscious and unconscious casualties; when carrying out aerial rescue, the apprentices needed to maintain high standards of health and safety at all times for themselves and the people they came into contact with.

Philippa Seccombe, Rural Skills Co-ordinator, said: “Congratulations to each of our apprentices on achieving their foundation qualification. They should be extremely proud of themselves.”

Investing in your future with outstanding new facilities.
